Jonathan Ramsey has been with the Worrell Network Office in Charlotte since 1999. His path to a career in life insurance was non-traditional to say the least. Jonathan spent two years at Olivet college in Michigan playing baseball and majoring in music performance on the french horn. After two years his father suggested that he needed to choose between baseball and music so he went off to Europe for 8 years where he finished his schooling at one of Germany's largest conservatories and then played professionally in several different orchestras.
He also met his wife Vivienne (a ballet dancer) in Germany and once their son was born they decided to move to her home city of Sydney, Australia. Jonathan did work for a short time in financial services in Australia before winning a position in the orchestra at the world famous Sydney Opera House. After four years, they decided to move to the U.S. and after several years of working other jobs in sales Jonathan met a Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Representative who suggested that he might find a career with the Network interesting. "I couldn't get in fast enough!"
"As many ups and downs as I have had I can honestly say that I have never once considered changing careers again. I love what I do and I am proud to represent the most admired company in our industry. I am proud to be a life insurance specialist and I am completely comfortable off-loading all business and investment cases to someone who specializes in those areas."
Most of Jonathan's clients are in the banking and financial services industry. This has opened doors to the BOLI marketplace and led to some rewarding work. "Even though I love protecting families, BOLI has allowed me to learn and grow in a refreshing new way that keeps me mentally stimulated and excited about bigger and better things."
Jonathan is very active in his church and very involved with Samaritan's Feet, a Christian organization that specializes in bringing shoes to children in third world countries. He also teaches Junior Achievement and delivers meals to shut-ins through an organization called Friendship Trays.
For relaxation he plays golf once a week with a long time friend and enjoys reading. He and his wife Vivienne have been married for 25 years and they live in Charlotte with their children Frank and Margaux.
"If you could sit down and paint the perfect career description I think a career with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network would be very close to the ideal. You drive your own destiny. If you want to make more money you have the option of working harder. If you need to take time off to travel or to attend to family issues you can do it."
"After several years the residual income you create is a terrific safety net and you develop some great relationships along the way. There are certain sales careers where the boss doesn't feel comfortable with you making too much money. I know that my Managing Partner would be very excited if I doubled my production this year. I am in for the long haul!"
